Hive is a DPOS governance blockchain created by implementing a hard fork of the existing Steem code.
Hive is a fork of the Steem blockchain, but with the intention of taking responsibility to build something better, running completely independently of the existing chain. All active accounts on the Steem blockchain will be airdropped on Hive.
Hive is an open-source blockchain that has been forged through years of development to bring Web 3.0 to the world. With a diverse community of stakeholders and no need to rein in bad actors, individuals can experience true ownership of decentralized blockchains and cryptocurrencies.
Hive is a decentralized content network powered by a delegated proof-of-stake consensus algorithm.
Hive forked from the Steem blockchain after the Tron Foundation acquired Steem and gained control of the company's funds in STEEM, which accounts for approximately 80% of the total STEEM supply. This fork is in response to the centralization risk posed by this acquisition, as pro-Tron STEEM addresses have been blacklisted and will not receive HIVE token airdrops.
The Decentralized Hive Fund ("DHF") allows users to make proposals, fund those proposals, and vote for their preferred changes. The fund is set up so that no one participant alone can control major changes.
The Hive platform provides many similar functions to Steem. The platform has two tokens: Hive (“HIVE”) and Hive-backed USD (“HBD”). HIVE is used to unlock various different functions provided by the platform, and HBD is mainly used as a reward.
